If you are planning to move to Sunset Beach and live the ideal laid back beach lifestyle ( and enjoy the biggest unspoiled sandy beach in the area) with your furry family member, you may be wondering if the beach is actually dog-friendly. You don’t want to move with dreams of taking your favorite pal with you to the gorgeous beach area to find out that dogs are not welcome.

Is The Beach in Sunset Beach, NC, dog-friendly?

The beach in Sunsest Beach, NC, is dog-friendly, but there are some specific rules about pets on the beach in the town that dog lovers moving to the area should be aware of before making their move.

Beach Guidelines/Rules in Sunset Beach for Pets

Starting the Friday before Memorial Day in May through Labor Day in September, there are very restrictive rules about pets using the beach area. Dogs are not allowed on the beach from the hours of 9 AM to 6 PM during these dates. This is because it is peak beach season, and there are many more people utilizing the Sandy Shores. The city of Sunset Beach wants to maintain an extremely comfortable and safe beachfront for all beachgoers. Pets are more than welcome before 9 AM and after 6 PM, but need to be on a leash that is no longer than 10 feet and under close supervision at all times.

Outside of these times, from September through May, outside of the summer months, dogs are able to enjoy the beach at any time as long as they are on a leash that is less than 10 feet long and responsibly supervised by their owner.

Dog owners are expected to clean up after their dogs and properly dispose of any waste.

It is not allowed for dogs to be off their leash on the beach at any time, even during off-peak season.

Life will lead you to where you belong. Five years ago life led me to meeting Karen Baker at an Open House. Our relationship continues as Karen and her husband Frank have been outstanding not only in helping my husband and I find the right retirement relocation home, but we have watched their commitment in helping many others find their homes. She and Frank treat every client as if they are the only ones that exist. They provide thorough research of areas and homes of interest and present you with the options. They are not your typical hard sell, must-buy-now realtors. They are here to help you find your next home?. You won’t go wrong with the Bakers!”-Sunset Beach and Beyond Review
