Sunset Beach is a very small and idyllic coastal town in Brunswick County, North Carolina. The population is only about 4200 people, so it is very relaxed and low-key compared to the surrounding larger municipalities. Sunset Beach is mainly located on a barrier Island that is predominantly residential with a fishing pier and beach access. There are a few mainland areas as well that are part of Sunset Beach boundaries, featuring a golf course and residential communities. There are not a large number of businesses or commercial amenities in Sunset Beach, so this leads people considering a move there to ask the question about what it looks like to run typical daily errands when you live in Sunset Beach full-time.

What Does Running Day-to-Day Errands Look Like When You Live in Sunset Beach?

A typical grocery run in Sunset Beach

Several people who live in Sunset Beach utilize the Food Lion at 1775 Clippers Way or the smaller Island Market on the barrier island portion of Sunset Beach for small daily, everyday basics. For larger grocery trips and grocery shopping needs, residents utilize Lowe’s Foods in nearby Ocean Isle Beach, just 5 to 10 minutes away.

There are online ordering options for grocery needs as well that offer pick-up and delivery. These can come from Food Lion or Lowe’s Foods, as well as nearby services through the Kroger grocery chain. People who enjoy the location benefits of having fresh seafood will hit nearby spots like Calabash or Shallotte to grab seafood from local markets caught that day.

Pharmacy

There’s a Walgreens pharmacy on Sunset Boulevard offering full pharmacy services at the corner of Highway 179 and 904.

Post office

There is a post office near the Walgreens area, making it convenient for Sunset Beach citizens to receive or mail significant packages. Additionally, there are post office box services for people wanting to utilize that alternative male source.

Banking

Sunset Beach has a First Citizens Bank located at 800 Sunset Boulevard North for basic banking needs.

Gas

There are several gas stations around the Sunset Beach area, many of them located near small shopping areas.

Hardware and other household items

There’s an Ace Hardware in nearby Calabash area and other stores offering house goods and hardware needs in the neighboring towns of Calabash and Shallotte

Other large shopping needs

To utilize big box stores, such as Target, or find retail outlets for clothing and other large services of the like, there are a couple of larger towns not far from Sunset Beach within 15 to 60 minutes’ drive. Shallotte and Calabash have extra retail services, and they neighbor Sunset Beach. In addition to this are:

Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach

These are two separate official towns and probably the most sizable and recognized in the coastal area around Sunset Beach. They are 20 to 30 minutes south of Sunset Beach and offer large shopping venues like the Coastal Grand Mall.

Wilmington

Wilmington is about 45 to 60 minutes north of Sunset Beach and offers more retail and commercial services when needed for people living in Sunset Beach full-time.

The services are a bit further than just taking a 10-minute drive from your home and do require a little bit of planning in your day, but it can become a fun day trip experience and adventure when needed.

Amy and I have bought and sold four properties in the past twelve years. Both of you are the best realtors we have ever dealt with. Amy and I both felt we could trust you to look out for our interest. The level of service you provided was outstanding, from taking the trash out, helping the buyer with inspecting the irrigation system, dealing with our tenants, always being there if we needed to ask a question, providing constant updates on the market and always keeping us informed on the sale of our house. I think your next venture should be training other realtors, because both of you have mastered the art of providing excellent service.
