When searching for a home, we all have things at the top of our priority list that we want to see in that home. And sometimes buyers also have priorities of what they would like to see in the surrounding neighborhood around their home, to really love and utilize where they live. For some, that could be walking distance to their favorite coffee shop. While for others, it could be access to great outdoor spaces.
Some people love to utilize spots that are great for daily walking or jogging. They like to get outdoors and get some physical activity in while also taking in the beauty and maybe even some people watching of the spaces around them.
If this is you, check out this list of neighborhoods near outdoor spaces in Philadelphia, great for walking/jogging/running/etc. walk.
What Philadelphia Neighborhoods Have Great Walking Trails?
North/Northwest Philadelphia
Areas of Northwest Philadelphia have easy access to Wissahickon Valley Park. Wissahickon Valley Park is one of Philadelphia’s standout natural areas with over 50 miles of trails, including flat, gravel, and wooded nature areas. There is plenty of natural beauty to take in, yet there are spots that are easy to navigate for those utilizing strollers, wheelchairs, or other items that might need a more well-groomed path. In addition to the beautiful scenery and easy-to-navigate areas are points of interest that keep the area interesting and even provide a little bit of challenge to change up a routine.
Neighborhoods that are popular and give very easy access to Wissahickon Valley Park include
Schuylkill River Area
The Schuylkill River features the Schuylkill River Trail along its shores. It is part of a larger circuit of trails that runs for miles and is incredibly popular for walking, running, and biking. It is a gorgeous spot along the river that also offers city skyline views. Neighborhoods that give easy access to this area include:
Fairmount
Fairmount and the nearby art museum area have quick access to Kelly Drive and into the River Trail. There are also paths in East and West Fairmount Park for access. Walk past boathouse row, through historic mansions, and into wooded sections. For a little quieter route with fewer people, check out Boxer’s Trail.
Fitler Square
The Fitler Square has riverfront paths right by the neighborhood, blending urban areas with waterfront walking areas.
Northeast Philadelphia
Pennypack Park is another great hotspot to enjoy trails and outdoor spaces. The Pennypack Trail is a great spot. It follows the creek for about 14 miles through Wood Park land with paved and and paved sections. Neighborhoods near this park include:
Pennypack
This neighborhood is named after the park because its location is on the border of the park itself.
Fox Chase
A significant portion of the park borders the neighborhood with direct trail access, and a mix of residential streets into the park’s Woodlands and Meadows.
Holmesburg and Upper Holmesburg
Hamburg borders the southeastern section of the park. It is very close to the State Road trailhead for the Pennypack trail.
Rhawnhurst
Rhawnhurst is on the southern edge of Pennypack Park and Pennypack Creek, and trails in the area form a natural boundary around the neighborhood.
