There are several neighborhoods that are more relaxed, but we are going to stick to the most popular suburban-feeling neighborhoods within the Philadelphia city limits.
Chestnut Hill
Chestnut Hills, located in Northwest Philadelphia, is one of the most recognized as feeling like its own suburban area within the city limits. Chestnut Hill has beautiful historic homes, tree-lined streets, lush greenery, and a village-like atmosphere located along Germantown Avenue. There are quaint shops and restaurants, as well as fun boutique-style stores. It is on the border of Wissahickon Valley Park, giving that distinct garden district style feel.
Mount Airy
Mount Airy, especially areas of Westmount and Erie, is well-regarded for the tight community-oriented vibes. There are large homes with yards and within walking distance of popular parks. It feels like a small town with a great educational system and a mix of historic architecture. There’s plenty of space to spread out and room to grow for those considering families.
Andorra
Andorra, also the Upper Roxboro area in Northwest Philadelphia, is always a top contender for a suburban-feeling neighborhood. The area is frequently noted as one of the quietest in the city. This area is a post World War II development with single-family homes featuring driveways with plenty of parking space and the gorgeous green park-like spaces that help create a relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, it is home to the Andorra Shopping Center, offering laid-back modern amenities that you would find in a suburban town.
Roxborough
The broader area of Roxborough is full of tree-lined streets and a mix of roomy homes with sizable yards. There’s plenty of breathing room here with a less dense urban grid. It is full of suburban character yet has all the perks of being in the city.
East Falls
East Falls offers a blend of larger homes with impressive tutors, as well as ranch-style homes and large lots. Proximity to the river keeps it incredibly popular as well. It offers a spread-out layout with a quieter and more peaceful vibe, providing suburban calm near some of Philadelphia’s most popular places to visit, and is reasonably commutable to downtown.
